Non profit Organizations:

Updated: May 2, 2020

What is a non profit organization?

A non profit organization is most often defined as one that addresses systemic, root causes of social (political, cultural, and economic) inequalities in an effort to alleviate not only those inequalities but also the underlying conditions and circumstances that bring them about.

Why are non profit organizations important?

Nonprofits are often the driving force behind awareness campaigns, active volunteerism and organized fundraising. They set a social goal and work tirelessly in its pursuit, acting as catalysts for equality.

Why is financial management important for non profit organizations?

Nonprofits have to live up to donor expectations. People and corporations donate money because they believe in the nonprofit’s cause. It’s implicit that the funds need to be spent the way the donors intend them to be spent: on effective programs that advance the mission—without overspending on fundraisers, administration, or expenses.
